AND WE HAVE OUR FIRST IMAGE
Things I’ve noticed:
1) I can tell that the animation is going to look a little glossy. This is to be expected with current technology and how it’s affected the look of anime (I mean, it’s not the 90s anymore much to my infinite sadness). But I still hope it’s not too computer-y and clean and slick.
2) The art style at first glance looks like it might be trying to get closer to Naoko’s art (Naoko Takeuchi being the mangaka and high priestess of Sailor Moon). I always thought that artstyle would be difficult to replicate.
The original anime had more of a style reminiscent of typical anime styles at the time (watch Fushigi Yuugi, Inu Yasha etc and you’ll know what I’m talking about). Naoko’s style is somewhat like that, but some flourishes from the manga art don’t make it through the translation to anime. I really hope they get close to it though. So far I’m liking what I see.
3) Sailor Moon Crystal???
The name fits, but the logo does look a tad…cheap? I don’t know.
Anyway, I hope this follows the manga more closely and I hope to GOD that it meets my exceedingly high expectations. I am so, SO excited for this. Don’t let me down Toei!
